Walking on the beach of Callantsoog

CallantsoogNot that long ago I went to Callantsoog with my family, a beautiful seaside resort located in the north of North-Holland by the North Sea. The widest and whitest beach in the Netherlands can be found here. This is just one part of the 30 km long and peaceful coastline. You know Callantsoog has been on my wish-list for a long time.

After parking the car (there is enough parking-space to park your car) we walked to the beach, the closer we got, the more people we saw. At one moment we had to make a choice, or going right where it was very crowded, or going left, where it was quiet and peaceful. Oh, and no people with little shovels to make sandcastles.

IMG_20150722_174618291You can take a right turn, but also the left one. And, keep in mind I’ve never been to that beach, we went left. It wasn’t crowded and that makes you wonder. Suddenly, we saw naked people, swimming, walking and enjoying the sun, wow. Callantsoog has a nudist beach of more than 2.5 km long. This is one of the largest nudist beaches in the Netherlands. Truly a beautiful beach, highly recommended. I would take a left turn anytime.

It doesn’t seems long, but the beach itself and the sand, but it’s tough for the ankles. Good exercise. After a refreshment at a beach club, we went back via a different route, Zwanenwater (Swans water). This route is around 5 km long and goes through the beautiful dunes. Zwanenwater takes you, as a hiker, through a beautiful and varied dune area with two large lakes, numerous pools, wetlands and floral-rich grasslands.

This was a great walk, fresh air, no shoes, fantastic beach …. Sigh.

I found out that Callantsoog has a positive influence on artist. There is a website where you can enjoy the art, with Callantsoog as a inspiration, Callantsoog Creatief. You can always have a look when you are curious. And when you like to know more about Callantsoog, you can go to the website of VVV Callantsoog.
